Featuring a saucy new English-language book and lyrics by Jacob Ashworth and Obie Award winner Rory Pelsue and luscious new arrangements by Dan Schlosberg, who conducts from the piano, this Original Cast Recording preserves Heartbeat Opera's "categorically imaginative and radical" (The New Yorker) approach to classic opera for the first time ever.

Jules Massenet composed Manon as an opera comique, to be performed in the language of the audience with an emphasis on clear text (both sung and spoken) and powerful acting as much as beautiful singing. Heartbeat Opera’s reinvention returns to Massenet’s intentions by translating the immediacy of the opera comique sensibility for American audiences with a fabulous cast of opera-savvy Broadway voices.
